Philemon Paul Mshelia is a lecturer and researcher at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria. He holds a doctorate degree in Human Physiology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. His research interest is in Epilepsy and behavioural neuroscience, with a present focus on elucidating the mechanistic involvement of natural products and neurochemicals in protection against stress, depression and epilepsy. Philemon has studied neurobehavioral changes focusing on learning, memory, anxiety, depression and seizure behaviour. He was, at some point, a visiting scholar at the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, where he conducted research on the role of BDNF-TrkB signalling in the synaptic expression of NMDA receptors in the pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy. He has won several travel grants and attended several international and local conferences and workshops. He is a member of several professional societies, such as the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO), the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN), the Society for Neuroscience in Africa (SONA), The Physiological Society, UK, The Neuroscience Society of Nigeria (NSN) and the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN).
