Ismail Odetokun earned the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master of Veterinary Public Health, and PhD (Veterinary Public Health) degrees from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine and an Honorary Research Associate at the College of Health Sciences, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. He is a Fellow of the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria (specialty in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine). His areas of research interest are in the fields of infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and One Health.
He has about 100 publications in reputable home-based, national, and international journals to his credit. Ismail belongs to several leading professional societies and has presented his research at several international conferences across the world. He has won several grants including the 2023 IDRC Canada grant for Innovative Veterinary Solutions for AMR in food-producing animals and aquaculture. Also, he contributes to scholarship as a reviewer to several journals and currently serves as an editorial board member of several journals such as PLoS One, PLoS Global Public Health, Dialogues in Health (Elsevier), Discover Public Health (Springer), etc.
