Dr Lawan is senior lecturer in Human Anatomy with over a decade of experience in teaching, research and mentoring of young academics. His area of research involves defining and developing non-invasive measures of health; nutrition, chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, neurodevelopmental and genetic disorders etc.) and human identity (forensic perspective). He explored the role of anthropometric and molecular biomarkers in diagnosis and prognosis of diseases. He has passion and commitment to public health which encourage him to pursue additional degree in public health with specialization in epidemiology and he is currently an active collaborator in Global Burden of Diseases (GDB); the largest comprehensive effort to quantify the impact of diseases, injuries, and risk factors on population health worldwide. This effort is led by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. He demonstrates skills and competence in Biostatistics and Computational Biology. Dr Lawan is among the first cohort to be trained on leadership skills in nutrition under a two years’ program; Leadership Development for Accelerated Progress in Nutrition in Nigeria (LEDA-NN). The overall goal is to reducing health inequality and promoting affordability, and accessibility to health services for improving quality of life.
