Aisha completed her medical degree at the El-Razi University in Sudan. She then proceeded to obtain a Master of Science Degree in Public and Tropical Health at the University of Medical Science and Technology in Khartoum, Sudan. She did her National Youth Service at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Kano. During her tenure at the NHIA, she was engaged in standard quality assurance in collaboration with the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KACHMA), the Hospital Management Board Kano, and the Primary Healthcare Board. She is currently working at the Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT, also known as “Pfizer Research Centre”).
Aisha is a passionate tropical health researcher focused on combating infectious diseases in resource-limited settings, particularly neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). In addition to her research, Aisha plays a dual role as a clinician and leads the implementation of the KIRCT Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and Rasheed Shekoni Federal University Teaching Hospital, which aims to improve healthcare accessibility. She is actively involved in creating an EMR-literate environment in health facilities, testing and optimizing the KIRCT platform and Rasheed Shekoni Federal University Teaching Hospital, and expanding its usage to other facilities through customization. Aisha serves as a critical link between developers and clinicians to ensure the system’s practical effectiveness and acceptance. She is also collaborating with the Kano CDC to customize the EMR for disease surveillance, enhancing its capacity to detect disease outbreaks statewide, and contributing to the broader goal of improving public health in Nigeria.
