Professor Adamu is a clinician, academic, epidemiologist, healthcare administrator and health services researcher with interest in primary care, health system strengthening and health security. He graduated MBBS from the University of Maiduguri in 2004, and obtained MSc Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the University of Ibadan in 2012 and PhD Population Health Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 2022. He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College and West African College of Surgeons (FMCR and FWACS) in Clinical Oncology. He has had further research, clinical, leadership and advocacy related trainings from prestigious institutions namely: the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Lagos; World Bank Institute; TDR-WHO-UNDP; UICC; NCI Egypt; Max Hospital India; and the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
Currently, his research focuses on understanding HIV-HPV co-infections; infectious diseases and cancer congruities; pandemic preparedness and response; including health system readiness for community-based interventions. His 2022 NIMR cohort is supported by NIMR foundation on a grant to promote HPV self-sampling among women at community-based pharmacies and PPMVs in low- and medium-income countries.
