Afisu, Basiru is an astute academic, accomplished researcher, and teacher. He holds a DVM, M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Ilorin. He conducts research in the areas of Reproductive Physiology, Endocrinology, Ethnomedicine, and One Health. To his credit, he has over 50 peer-reviewed publications. He is the managing editor of Savannah Veterinary Journal and a member of the University of Ilorin Postgraduate board. He is a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association; Global Andrology Forum; The Physiological Society, UK, and the Society for Study of Reproduction.
He is a recipient of prestigious awards such as the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research Foundation fellowship (2023), the United States Department of State’ Biosecurity Engagement Program Grant to attend the Biosafety and Biosecurity Training Course at the Colorado State University, Fort Collins (2019); The Physiological Society travels grant to attend the Europhysiology Conference in London (2018); and Carnegie Foundation scholarship to participate at the Pan Africa Doctoral Academy, June Schools at the University of Ghana, Legon (2016).
Dr. Afisu, Basiru is open to collaboration in reproductive physiology, implementation science, one health, and ethnomedicine research.
